For the last couple of weeks, I devoured this show on Netflix called “How to get rich”.
The host, Ramit Sethi, (also renowned author of “I will teach you to be rich”) brings a bunch of people on a journey towards financial accomplishment, helping them identify their roadblocks in the way they feel about and manage their money.
He sits with them, discusses their long-term goals, and crafts a plan together to achieve those.
His advice is financial, but deeply rooted in our personal definition of a good and meaningful life. He aims to detach emotion from money and encourage people to just see it as a means to an end; a tool to afford the things that matter to us.
He asks people: what is your rich life?
To some, that might be working a steady job, buying a house, and driving a nice car. Others prefer more flexibility, traveling the world and prioritizing experiences over material items.
Rich doesn’t have a specific number. Financial freedom could be 1 million in the bank, could be half of that, or could be triple. It’s on you and how you envision your life.
So that’s the exercise I want to bring.
To me, a rich life is one where I have enough money to choose what I do with my time. A life where I can design my day-to-day and earn income from activities that I enjoy. I can afford a nice place to live, but also travel frequently. I don’t have to keep a strict budget – I can go out to restaurants and book spontaneous weekend trips. I can regularly put money away for the future, save and invest, while still indulging in experiences in the present.
This reflection is an encouragement to think: what would I do with my life if money was not an issue?
How would I spend my time? Where would I put my money?
Now it’s your turn.
Define what “a rich life” means to you beyond financial wealth.
What are your values, passions, and aspirations?
Then take a look at your current situation – what can you change to align your daily actions with your future goals?
Choose one thing you can implement in the next 6-12 months that would take you closer to where you want to be (saving 100 bucks per month, increasing your income, cutting your spending on X by half)
The key to success is making small, targeted moves that contribute to our big, long-term dream.
Starting today.
A wealthier, happier, healthier version of you is just waiting for you to unlock it.

🤔there are some excellent questions included in this piece got me thinking. To a certain point, I have a half-rich life as I spend most of my time on my Substack, so I feel like half winner so far ☺️

That's a question everyone should ask oneself very regularly! and there have been years that I forgot to do just that!
